Friends Both Near and Far

What makes friends, friends? Friendships at the elementary level are formed because you wanted to play a game and  you needed a buddy. Later in life friendships spring up through work or educational ties. Sometimes the bond was forged so many moons ago that the actual memory of how it started has long been forgotten. Sometimes it's a common cause, a mutual loss, a united front...that brings you together, but why do you stay together?

Birds of a feather flock together but feathers tend to shed. I have been fortunate enough to have acquired phenomenal friendships over the years. I often see others who aren't as fortunate and wonder how they exist without the core group of support that I have managed to have around me. It's not always easy to keep these bonds alive and well as drifting from career to location occurs and yet I am still blessed with the bonds of friendship. I think some people underestimate the power and value of having like minded individuals with which to share your inner thoughts. I am not one of those people. We might not always agree but I don't know where I would be with out the family of my choosing, my friends.
